I am a single girl working in chemistry approaching age of 30, living alone in my small flat. I don’t have even a cat.
One male co-worker of mine once pronounced that any single girl over thirty is out of his interest. “Such girl”, he told, “could be good enough only for some kind of divorced man over 50 years old”. It was cruel, non-correct but truly realistic.
A good friend of mine did it. She married her former professor. Today, they have a child together. However, there are also old parents of that man suffering many illnesses related to their old age (starting dementia in one case included). And professor himself need attention and service. This girl once told me, she was totally exhausted and felt like having four children instead of one. She gave me the following advice: “You can marry a man much older than you if you really love him. But only in case he is an orphan.”
I don’t give up the hope that I will meet someone. Someone who will attract me same way as basis attracts hydrogen ion since there are numerous interesting men I am meeting in my field of work. Attractive jobs you can apply for with chemistry degree are listened in this article.
When relaxing I enjoy classic horror movies and books inspired by natural phenomena. There is a short presentation of some of my favorites. Almost all of them are pretty old, that means that they has stood the test of time.
This series about super-powerful killing organism is a truly pleasure for every viewer involved in biology or chemistry. Screenwriters put both field brilliantly together. Alien, with its parasitic-inspired life form, acid-containing blood and the development from an egg via face hugger to the final monster form is so sophisticated.
And I like the motifs of space discovery itself. I don’t have any opinion on the life out of our planet. But after seeing Alien or Predator I am not much fond of opportunity to contact any extraterrestrial life-forms.
The latest story―Covenant impressed me too despite the negative criticism. I liked the leitmotif of movie―warning mankind before an artificial intelligence.
Before I saw the movie, I had browsed across the web. Here, I found the novel “Who goes there” written by John Wood Campbell about polar expedition finding a ghastly alien creature in the ice.
The movie itself is its excellent adaptation. The biochemistry of the monster is well invented―an entity who can imitate any kind of living cell on earth and absorb it. From a scientific point of view, the theme of cultivation of anti-Thing antibody on dogs was very interesting for me. And the scene with head trying to escape always horrifies me like seeing it for the first time. I have read somewhere that seeing this movie is obligatory for any polar expedition.
Little red riding hood inspired story of a girl’s transformation into woman. With several hilarious transformations into werewolf. I love that Freudian symbol string. Beside the touching chemistry between the heroine and the werewolf (more about chemistry of love you can find here), the movie is accompanied by magical music.
This book, written in 1950 is still a pleasant read. My mother gave me it one day and I have read it whole within few nights. The leitmotif of book is focused on mankind facing its apocalyptic end because of world-wide distributed blindness. Moreover, people are jeopardized by plants possessing a very special scale of skills. Unfortunately, to these days I have not seen any movie interpretation worth of seeing.
